CranioSacral Therapy

Picture
CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle approach to evaluating and releasing restrictions deep within the body. The touch used, is typically about 5 grams (the weight of a nickel) or less of pressure.

The craniosacral system is comprised of the cranium (skull), brain, spinal cord, sacrum (tailbone), and the tissues and fluid that surround and protect those structures. This system creates its own natural rhythm that the therapist uses to asses where the dysfunction is coming from.

Typical Session
The typical session of CranioSacral Therapy is about one hour, however 90 minute sessions are also available.  It is requested that comfortable, non-restrictive clothing is worn for the session, as the client remains fully clothed.  The therapist starts by monitoring the rhythm of the craniosacral system to detect where restrictions are being held within the body.  Then using light touch, manual techniques may be applied to release these tensions.

Further expanding the principles of this work, techniques such as dialoguing and therapeutic imagery can also be used to release residual effects of traumatic events.  Dialoguing is a non directive, verbal exploration of what the client is feeling.  It assists in helping the client make connections with what is happening in their body.
