Naturopathic Consultations
The American Association of Naturopathic Physicians says that Naturopathic physicians treat patients by restoring overall health rather than suppressing a few key symptoms. Naturopathic physicians are more concerned with finding the underlying cause of a condition and applying treatments that work in alliance with the natural healing mechanisms of the body rather than against them. Naturopathic treatments result less frequently in adverse side effects, or in the chronic conditions that inevitably arise when the cause of disease is left untreated.
"Naturopathic medicine is a distinct primary care health profession, emphasizing prevention, treatment and optimal health through the use of therapeutic methods and substances which encourage the persons inherent self healing process, the vis mediatrix naturae"
What to expect in Your Naturopathic Consultation
The goal of a Naturopathic Doctor is to restore the body to health. This is done by removing obstacles to cure, giving the body what it needs, and stimulating “the Vis” – the Healing Power of Nature. Your body heals itself. But this requires open communication and cooperation between patient and physician. What is your medicine?
Before your initial visit you will receive a health history and symptom survey which you will complete and bring along with you to your initial consultation. This visit will last around two hours and will provide an opportunity to gain a comprehensive overview of your total health and your current symptom picture. We will begin to prioritize your individual health goals.
After this visit, there may be additional paperwork and possible lab testing. Follow-up appointments allow a review of any additional information and discussion of your progress along your individual path of healing. We will determine how best to integrate this plan into your lifestyle.
Once you are an established patient, the need for further visits will depend on the complexity of your condition and your own health goals. Some conditions respond quickly, others benefit from more frequent monitoring. Some people simply want a place to begin, others appreciate review and fine tuning. We will work together to keep you moving in the direction of optimal health!
Jennifer's extensive education in clinical nutrition, acupuncture, homeopathic medicine, botanical medicine, psychology, and counseling (to encourage people to make lifestyle changes in support of their personal health) will be reflected in your session.
